Honoring Kristin Okerlund (1963–2025)
It is with deep gratitude and affection that we remember Kristin Okerlund, a beloved pianist, collaborator, and friend of Living Opera. Kristin was a fixture of the Vienna State Opera ensemble since 1993, where her artistry and professionalism made her one of the most respected musicians in opera.
Her work spanned an extraordinary range of repertoire, from Mozart and Strauss to Verdi and Wagner, and she was a sought-after coach and recital partner for singers around the world.
Kristin was also a cherished colleague of Living Opera founders Soula Parassidis and Norman Reinhardt, with whom she shared the stage and the studio, helping them craft their roles before they took the stage. She also played a vital role in Living Opera’s inaugural masterclass, bringing her insight and generosity of spirit to young artists just beginning their careers.
More recently, she was helping shape two of our 2026 initiatives, lending her musical wisdom and institutional experience to our next chapter.
In recognition of her legacy, we are proud to announce that our Living Opera Masterclass Series will now be renamed the Kristin Okerlund Masterclass Series in her honor. Her name will continue to inspire future generations of artists to pursue excellence, humility, and joy in their music-making.
We miss you Kristin.
