Your agent is your business partner. As such, we recommend not calling them with your personal problems. Rather, call them with specific tasks to ensure your satisfaction with their performance. They are not mind readers! They need to know what you are thinking and feeling.
"Ask yourself, do I have a product an agent can sell?"
Make no mistake: opera is a BUSINESS! This is the question your potential agent is asking themselves when they hear you. Can I sell this singer? At what level? For how much? The answers to these questions will determine what kind of agent you need/get, where you sing, and at which level of the business.
We need to be comfortable thinking in these terms, even as artists. In fact, taking a more hard-lined, business-like approach to your art will help take out some of the feelings of rejection and personal injury!
